Nike releases another Air Max 1 in premium for their anniversary. This time, we are treated to a tribute to legendary Olympian runner Steve Prefontaine whose high school team logo (a pirate skull and crossbone) has previously adorned the Air Max 1 10 years ago.
This is a clean and simple all-black pair of sneakers with white midsoles. The suede on the Swoosh, toebox, and mudguard is nice and soft to the feel. Much better than from the Tonal Pack.
The tongue is made of nylon. And in lieu of your usual Nike branded tags, you have the skull & crossbone stitched on them in white.
The heel, lateral, and medial sides are made of flat leather. The quality seems so-so at first, but it will surely look much better once worn in. You’ll also find the Nike logo embossed on the heels.
What I love the most is the nice little pop of details coming from the chrome aglets and eyelets.
Comfort & Fit
They fit like your other Air Max 1s. You can easily get with going half a size down. For people with wide feet, I would go TTS.
For reference, I wear size 8.5 in all Air Max (90, 95, 97), Roshe Run, VaporMax, Flyknit Racer, and Air Jordan 1, 11. And I go half down to size 8 in UltraBoost 2.0 & Uncaged, Air Jordan 4, 6, and 13.
The price is quite right for this premium reboot of a beloved retro pack paying tribute to Steve Prefontaine. The black & white colourway is clean and quite versatile for any fit. This is a classic and must for any Air Max fans.
