1996 was quite the year for a lot of kids from my generation. The music from the era is nostalgia to me, tons of sneakers releases that are still sought-after today, and the Chicago Bulls were dominating with a trio Dynasty:
Jordans have been re-released numerous times, and the More Uptempo popularized by Pippen releases regularly in different colourways. It was about time Dennis Rodman’s signature sneakers got retro-ed after 21 years. The sneakers aesthetics were true to Rodman’s personality.
The asymmetrical lacing system is what give this pair a unique flair.
The silhouette is filled with giant and mini Swooshes – on the front of the toe, the outsole going to the back of the heel, across the upper, and on the red strap, over a gear icon. The gear logo strap represents Rodman’s always-grinding personality on-court. You’ll also find a basketball and destruction logo stitched on the heel.
To be honest, the quality is so-so with the synthetic tumbled leather. It may require a few wear to break it all in. And once the upper is nicely worn, the shoes will look even better. There is a mesh underlay holding the upper together, along with a red strap and rope laces.
You will find a visible bubble unit on the midsole, and another bubble-like detail on the top outer part of the sneakers displaying Nike’s “AIR”. On the toe boxes are perforations giving the much-needed breathability considering the mostly-leather upper.
Reading my description does not do these shoes justice. Have a look at the following photo gallery for a detailed look. While the shoes look unique, they’re also very straight-forward:
Go TTS. These are good for people with wide feet.
This one is for the collector. If you’re the type to collect sneakers with history, then this one is a must-have. I’m excited to have these to complete my personal ’96-’97 Bulls tribute pack.
