Partnering up with OFF-WHITE founder Virgil Abloh, the collaboration called for re-imagined classic silhouettes at the hand of one of the most prominent streetwear designer of this decade. The Ten was born and I was lucky enough to have one of the instant classics in hand.
Despite the obviously very high hype, I carted a pair of the Blazer Mid on nike.ca with a bit of patience and perseverance.
The first thing you’ll be presented to will be a unique reverted orange Nike box with Virgil’s signature descriptive word in quotation marks, also found on the shoe laces.
Inside, the shoes are wrapped in an OFF-WHITE design print with 3 extra laces in black, orange, and green. It truly feels like you’re opening up a present.
This classic silhouette gets deconstructed and the materials seemed to have been flipped inside out. It’s a lot simpler than the more popular Air Jordan 1 . The simplicity allows the details to pop out a lot more.
Up along the shoes, you have suede detailing holding up the laces and on the medial side, white leather upper, and durable ripstop material on the lateral side. The red ziptie hangs off the laces which you can easily take out if, like me, you don’t trust yourself with any removable accessories.
The tongue is made of mesh material with an unfinished edge exposing the foam padding. You’ll also find red stitches and the Nike tag branding moved to the lateral side.
The black oversized Nike swoosh is bonded to the upper going down to the midsole, unlike on other silhouettes where it is stitched on. You’ll also find a thin leather orange tag peaks out from behind the swoosh.
On the medial side, there’s the descriptive text that is also found on the other silhouettes which is slightly covered up by the Swoosh.
The heel cup has sizing information on it. It is a very light blue and made of some sort of unfinished fibrous material. The “NIKE” is embossed in suede material which is also decorate by the exposed foam you’ll find on the tongue.
The rubber midsole has a cream/off-white colour which goes up to the toe cap and all across the outsole as well.
The insoles has the OFF-WHITE logo printed on the heel with inverted perforation on the forefoot. I don’t even know how to really describe that last part.
Fit & Comfort
These fit TTS for me – just like any other Nike shoes such as the Air Max 1, 90, 95, and 97. Comfort-wise, they’re okay. They probably need a breaking period before they feel good.
This is yet another collector’s piece. Admittedly I fell into the hype – I would have settled on any pair of The Ten collab, but I am very happy to have grabbed the Blazer model. It was definitely in my top 5 favourites silhouette out of the ten available.
