OK, OK… The title was grossly exaggerated, but I truly did put an outdoors cult classic to the test while visiting Iceland. When it comes to looking great in nature, you can’t beat All Conditions Gears (ACG) products. This year, Nike graced us multiple retro silhouettes with some updates: Ruckel Ridge, Air Revaderchi, and Dog Mountain. The latter was my favourite, not only for its playful design, but the price-point was just right at $140 CAD/$110 USD.
The ACG Dog Mountain proved to be a trusty adventure companion. The aggressive outsole helped gripping wet rocky surfaces with great ease. I couldn’t find information online whether or not the shoes were waterproof or water resistant, but I was happy to find my feet dry after spending hours outside in temperamental Icelandic weather. Stepping in muds and puddles has never been more fun as an adult.
Composed of premium suede, vibrant tones, and meticulous details, you can tell the Nike team had a lot of fun designing these. On the midsole, you’ll find the topographic map of Dog Mountain’s trail. There are even the coordinates to the location stamped in the upper. On the outsole, you’ll find an inverted ACG logo so when you step on a soft surface, the branding can be seen imprinted on the ground. There are also hits of 3M for a safe night-time adventure.
Fit & Comfort
These are extremely comfortable. There is a perfect balance between firm support while providing a cushy feeling that hugs your feet safely in place.
They run TTS (your usual Nike sizing — I wear 8.5 in Air Maxes & most Jordans).
All-in-all, if you’re looking for trail kicks to flex in nature, this silhouette might be a good gateway to the other ACG models for its low price.
Also, Iceland it beaaaaautiful. I highly recommend it.
